Jones Bros achieves duo of prestigious industry awards2nd Dec 2025

Jones Bros Civil Engineering UK’s expertise has secured two accolades at the Chartered Institution of Highways and Transportation (CIHT) Cymru Awards 2025.

In partnership with Ymgynghoriaeth Gwynedd Consultancy (YGC), the Ruthin-headquartered firm won the esteemed Active Travel and Innovation and Research honours.

The former recognises Jones Bros’ role in facilitating healthier living by delivering a 1.3km path from Llechwedd Quarry to Blaenau Ffestiniog along the A470 as part of active travel improvements.

The Innovation and Research prize lauds the company’s contribution to improving the highways and transportation sector though ingenuity and careful planning – as seen on the A493 Friog Vehicle Restraint System scheme.

As principal contractor, the team installed a bespoke modular concrete foundation system to strengthen weak ground conditions, expand the width of the road by 200mm, and ensure the project was completed on time and budget.

Jones Bros was also highly commended in the Collaboration award for its work alongside YGC, and in both the Health, Safety & Wellbeing and the Environment & Sustainability honour for its innovative idle reduction strategy.

The initiative outlines the firm’s commitment to reducing its fleet’s idling fuel consumption by 32 per cent through fortnightly telematics site reports, dedicated training videos for staff and apprentices, and manager support sessions to interpret data.

Jones Bros contracts director Hefin Lloyd-Davies said: “It’s been brilliant to work closely alongside YGC to deliver such impactful projects, and I’m proud that our efforts have been recognised by such an established industry body.

“The award wins are truly a testament to the hard work of all our members of staff and reflects our ongoing commitment to excellence and collaboration we have with YGC.”

Councillor June Jones, Cabinet Member for Highways, Engineering and YGC said: “This success at the awards is encouraging news and a recognition of the innovation and collaboration taking place within the YGC Service with partners such as Jones Bros and the North West Wales Slate Landscape World Heritage Site to deliver high-quality projects within our communities here in Gwynedd.”

Established in the 1950s, Jones Bros owns one of the largest plant fleets in the UK and employs approximately 500 people.

The company is currently working on contracts in various sectors including highways, flood and marine defence, reservoirs, waste management and renewable energy around the UK.

The company runs an award-winning apprenticeship scheme, which has produced nearly 40 per cent of its current workforce, with many of its senior managers having started out as apprentices or in a trainee role. It has recruited hundreds of apprentices over the years.
